The perfect romantic retreat for two in the centre of Rye, Dot Cottage is a true hidden gem.
A stones throw from the historic Landgate- once used to keep invaders out of the medieval town of Rye - Dot Cottage is the end of row of four. Just within the Rye Citadel are 111 properties that predate 1660, with this row of cottages one of them. The structure was altered in the 18th century and developed into the four dwellings we see now. As with many properties in the town, the cottage is listed with features original wooden beams throughout and has been sympathetically and artfully brought back to life by its current owner.
A typical two up, two down, you enter straight into the lounge, a colourful and inviting space with comfortable two seater sofa, scattered with an array of chintzy cushions, a small dining table and chairs perfect for long breakfasts and candle lit evening dining. The lounge has an opulent, sophisticated air to it, with gallery wall & key antique pieces and for those autumnal or winter evenings, a wood burning stove to add a rosy, romantic glow. The kitchen has a farmhouse feel, restored with a creative eye the owner exposed the original brick work which provides a lovely back drop to a reclaimed wood kitchen. You will find an eclectic mix of selected English crockery, earthenware etc which all adds to the romance of the cottage and everything beautiful has a use.
The garden leads on to the pretty, private courtyard garden, with its pots of flowers and rambling climbers, a pleasant spot to sit with your morning coffee or evening tipple.
An open staircase lead up to the double bedroom, with double aspect windows the room is flooded with light and over looks the high street. The antique furniture adds a very English flourish. The spacious bathroom and the perfect holiday pampering spot, if you wish to while away an hour soaking in the large tub.
A stay at Dot Cottage will leave you wanting more and with its location perfectly suited for exploring Rye on foot, you literally have everything you need for a superb getaway on your doorstep with the cottage based a two minute walk from the end of the High Street.
