The Strand House Winchelsea

For up to 12 Persons

About the Accommodation

The Strand House sleeps 12 in a 6 bedroom all ensuites, 14th century holiday cottage in the historic coastal town of Winchelsea, East Sussex.

The holiday cottage is enchanting, oozes history and is even older than the famous Mermaid Inn in Rye on Mermaid street. It has had many uses over the years, a hospital run by monks, a village work house, a guest house during WWII and a hotel until recently. Now guests can enjoy the whole house to themselves & pretend to be Lord or Lady of the manor!

The holiday home is full of quirky characteristic charm, inglenook fireplaces, Sussex latch doors, oak beams, sloping floors, low ceilings and yet, with all the 21st century benefits, including wifi. You enter the property into the entrance hall, with a quiet library reading corner with books about local history. There is a dining room, lounge, kitchen and stairs leading to the bedrooms. The large dining room has an inglenook fireplace, space to comfortably seat everyone around the huge dining table, two seating areas and doors leading to the terrace. A great entertaining space for family and friends whether for a leisurely breakfast or a lively evening meal. The cosy lounge with inglenook fireplace and woodburner, table & chairs for games and comfy sofa’s make it the perfect retreat to chill out after a busy day exploring. The kitchen is not the usual twee farmhouse style but an industrial, working kitchen, that will delight the budding chefs amongst you. Fully equipped for all your catering needs. Next to the kitchen is a small utility room with a washing machine and WC.

Stairs lead up from the hall to the bedrooms. There are six stylish bedrooms all with their own unique finish, ensuite facilities and TV’s. We have on two twin bedrooms with a double and a single bed and the other four are all doubles.

The terrace off the dining room has ample tables and chairs for morning coffee or an evening tipple. Stairs lead up to the mature garden with lawn area and established flower beds. There is parking for 6 cars on the gravel driveway.

The holiday cottage allows ‘babes in arms’ and we can provide travel cots and highchairs but no children under eight years due to the age of the property, open stairs and low window and because the driveway is not gated. It is your responsibility to warn children of the danger of approaching the road unaccompanied.

We do allow two well behaved dogs for an additional fee of £25 per dog, providing that they are kept on a lead whilst in the grounds, because the garden is not fully enclosed and we ask that you do not allow them on the furniture or upstairs in the bedrooms.

We can provide hampers on arrival, additional cleaning services, and shopping services, please ask at time of booking.

The Stand House is a great property for friends and families getting together to have a fun time but we do not allow stag or hen parties. .
